Patriot Front lawyers are asking the judge to allow them to amend their motion to dismiss the case based on a new court ruling out of Colorado.
The defendants are arguing that they have a constitutional right to target a black community with hate speech.
In an email exchange with Patriot Front lawyer Bradley Marrs, he defended his clients, “If my clients were to lose this case, there'd be nothing to stop hundreds of anti-BLM people from suing BLM and its members literally thousands of times. In a democratic society, we cannot allow civil lawsuits to become a weapon to silence those we disagree with, no matter how strongly we may feel, nor even how right we may be in our views.”
I can’t find any examples of Black Lives Matters activists targeting white neighborhoods with hate speech. It’s interesting that Marrs equates black people’s demands that police not execute them with hate speech. These Patriot Front members destroyed an Arthur Ashe mural in a black neighborhood in Richmond because they wanted to scare that community. And this wasn't the first time the hate group harassed this Richmond neighborhood.
Black Lives Matter activists are not trying to scare white people, even if white people think black people are scary. Destroying the Arthur Ashe mural was not an attempt to stop oppression, it was the opposite.
